About Me

I was born and raised in Hannover, Germany. After completing high school, I briefly explored the (very boring) German tax law unsuccessfully before discovering my true passion for IT. Training as an IT Assistant specializing in Software Technology laid the foundation for a career spanning continents, industries, and diverse challenges.

I began as a database developer working with Oracle, quickly transitioning into freelance consulting. In 2006, love brought me to Chicago, USA, where I embraced new opportunities both personally and professionally. Together with my amazing wife, I built a new life filled with growth and adventure, and we’re now proud parents to two wonderful kids.

Professionally, I restarted as a database developer specializing in MS SQL Server, seizing the dynamic opportunities of the U.S. job market. Through hard work, dedication and the opportunity to get to know and learn from some of the best experts in the SQL Server community – like Paul Randal & Kimberly Tripp, Brent Ozar or Kendra Little – who all resided in the Chicagoland area, I advanced to a full-time DBA role, then to Database Engineer, DBA Manager, and eventually to VP of Database Architecture.
